| find us | Galston got back to winning ways in their penultimate league match on their travels to West Kilbride, as the home team failed to capitalise on a poor second half display. The visitors took the lead just after the quarter hour mark when Gemmell had a clear run through on goal, he looked to have lost the chance to score when the Kilbride defender got back to challenge but as the ball broke, Gemmell finished from outside the box. They had their chance to double their lead ten minutes later when English was also clear through on goal but his poor touch allowed the keeper to save. Galston were well on top during the first period and should have been further in front by half time but they had to wait until ten minutes into the second half to double their lead as Miller's corner seemed to go straight in, despite the home tea's best efforts to keep the ball out. West Kilbride got a goal back when Galston failed to clear a cross into the box and the Kilbride striker's header looped over everyone into the empty net. Galston restored their two goal lead ten minutes from time when they were awarded a free kick twenty five yards from goal, and Denim struck it through the wall and past the stranded keeper. West Kilbride got another goal with three minutes to go but this was to prove to be a consolation as Galston held on to their lead. This was the best goal of the game as a cross from the right was volleyed into the top corner by the Kilbride midfielder, but it proved to be too little, too late for the home team. Man of the Match went to Ryan Miller for a fine midfield display and a good goal, with the Numpty award going to Duffy for protecting himself rom one of Calder's misplaced passes. |

| feb & mar | 13-May-09 | League | Galston United | 0 | v | 4 | Knockentiber | A Sanderson | 7 / 10 | team sheet | |||||||||
| dec & jan | Galston's league campaign is all but over as they crashed 4 - 0 at home to local rivals Knockentiber in their worst performance of the season. The visitors were 2 up within twenty minutes and continue their recent run of good form. Firstly, Galston failed to clear a corner and although keeper Moore made a good save from a close range shot, the ball fell at the feet of Quigley who finished well from a tight angle as the ball nestled in the net off the inside of the post. Worst was to follow for Galston a few minutes later when a corner cannoned off Tiber defender Greg and evaded everyone in the 6 yard box to find the back of the net. Tiber had the best of the first half hour of the match and were out-muscling the home team in all areas of the park, although they were the stronger side they never really created many clear cut chances. Galston had a couple of opportunities to get a goal back from set plays as Miller was delivering some dangerous crosses into the box but never troubled the Tiber defence much during the first half. Galston came into it during the last quarter hour but could not capitalise. Any chance United had of using the wind to their advantage in the second half were ruled out in the first five minutes when Tiber extended their lead, although this time it was a bit more fortunate as a cross from the right looped over keeper Moore into the corner of the net. By this time, the match was pretty much over although Tiber added another halfway through the second half when Quigley finished very well when he was left un-marked at the back post to complete the scoring. The only other incident of note was United defender Wardrop getting sent off for his second bookable offence. This was a disappointing display from Galston and they got what they deserved on the night as Tiber march on in the league. Man of the Match went to Barra for a strong midfield display with Waddy's red card earning him the Numpty award, although the entire team should have got it for an embarrassing display. Shocking.

| 25-Apr-09 | League | Mossblown Ams | 3 | v | 3 | Galston United | D Rorison | 6 / 10 | team sheet | ||||||||||
Galston dropped vital points in the league as they failed to win away from home, only managing to scrape a draw against a resolute Mossblown side. The home team got off to the best possible start when the were two up inside the first ten minutes, first capitalising on a poor goalkeeper clearance to send a shot from outside of the box into the top corner on three minutes and the doubling their lead 7 minutes later when a dangerous cross across the 6 yard box was turned into his own net by McCallion. The visitors started to create some chances but could not break through the Mossblown defence and were restricted to shots from outside the area through a very busy penalty box. They finally got the breakthrough on the half hour mark when Duffy was left un-marked inside the 6 yard box and when the ball dropped to him, he slammed it home. However, Mossblown re-instated their two goal advantage almost immediately when the visitors tried to play the offside trap and gave the Mossblown striker a free run on goal and Moore's save could not keep the ball out of the net. Galston mounted a strong attack in the second half but it took them until the 74th minute to get their second of the match when Miller's cross evaded everyone and nestled in the corner of the net. They then equalised with five minutes later when Duffy rose unchallenged to send his header home and set up a nail-biting last ten minutes. Despite some constant pressure United could not get the winner and they dropped two points. Man of the Match went to Smith and Numpty for this week was McCallion for his OG, succeeding where Barra failed a week earlier!! |

| 22-Apr-09 | League | Galston United | 3 | v | 1 | Auchinleck United | R Connolly | 4 / 10 | team sheet | ||||||||||
| Galston win at home against Auchinleck in a tricky league match, keeping their 4 point lead at the top of the league. Auchinleck have been going well in their first year in the Premier League although Galston have had a good run of late so this was always going to be a tough match. Galston started slowly although had a couple of chances within the first quarter of an hour and took the lead in the 14th minute when Moore was unmarked at the back post to head home an excellent Miller free kick. Galston continued to have the better of the first half but could not improve their lead. Auchinleck got an equaliser less than ten minutes into the second half when their striker capitalised on a mix up in the Galston defence and sent the ball into an empty net. This only lasted 5 minutes when Duffy challenged the visitor's keeper to head home a Denim cross. They created further chances to extend their lead and finally sealed the game with twenty minutes to go when English collected the ball and drove forward into the box before passing the ball past the on-rushing keeper. This was a fine victory for at home for United to remain top of the league with Hurlford and Clark Drive closing in on them and Knockentiber, although they suffered another injury blow towards the end of the match as English was taken off and looks to be out for the league run in. Man of the Match went to English with the Numpty award going to Hosie for being in the shower when going on as a sub!! |

| 18-Apr-09 | League | Galston United | 1 | v | 0 | Glenburn MW | A Sanderson | 6 / 10 | team sheet | ||||||||||
United stretched their lead at the top of the table to 4 points as they win at home to Glenburn, with Knockentiber in cup duty now with 4 games in hand. This was a poor match with Galston not at their best, however Glenburn offered very little going forward and had very few chances on goal. United dominated for much of the match without creating many clear cut chances though few could argue that they deserved the three points. The first half was played out in the midfield although the visitors started the brighter of the teams. The only real incident of note in the first half came when the Galston keeper made an excellent save to deny Glenburn the lead, as his own midfielder fired the ball towards the top corner of the net from a Glenburn cross. It looked as if Galston's domination would not lead to a goal as they didn't look like scoring for long periods of the match, but the highlight of the second half came when Barrowman finished excellently following a goalkeeping error. The visitor's keeper failed to deal with a cross effectively and when the ball came out of the box, the Galston midfielder volleyed home through a ruck of players to give Galston the lead. The home team's play improved at this point as they made a couple of substitutions to freshen the game up and they had a couple of half chances towards the end of the game to seal the victory. However, Glenburn still did not trouble the home defence and the game ended at 1-0. Man of the Match went to keeper Moore for a couple of excellent saves, and Numpty this week went to Barra for his spectacular OG effort. |

| 15-Apr-09 | League | Clark Drive | 2 | v | 1 | Galston United | 6 / 10 | team sheet | |||||||||||
Galston failed to capitalise on rivals Knockentiber dropping 2 points at home to Dean Thistle as Clark Drive snatched a late winner in this midweek fixture. United travelled to Irvine hoping to avenge the West of Scotland Cup defeat but didn't play particularly well and came away with nothing, although they deserved at least a point out of the game. As usual at Clark Drive, the wind caused havoc and meant neither team played attractive football with very few chances in the game. The visitors took the lead 5 minutes before half time when Duffy chased down a lost cause, and when the Drive defender and goal-keeper had a mix up, he was on hand to send the ball home from a tight angle. The lead only lasted a few minutes though when Drive scored from a dubious free kick. The long-range strike swerved and dipped in the air and deceived keeper Moore to get Clark Drive back in the match before half-time. Galston had the perfect opportunity to regain their lead at the start of the second half when they were awarded a penalty but Duffy's strike crashed against the crossbar and was cleared. Neither team created many clear-cut chances during the second half and it looked as of the match was going to peter out to a draw, however the home team snatched a late winner when Galston failed to clear a corner effectively, and when the ball was returned into the box, the unkempt Drive striker was un-marked at the back post to head the ball home. Man of the Match went to Barra for an excellent midfield display and Numpty this week goes to Duffy for his penalty miss. |

| 11-Apr-09 | League | Galston United | 7 | v | 2 | Broomlands | 8 / 10 | team sheet | |||||||||||
United moved 2 points clear at the top of the league as a result of another emphatic victory at home against ten-men Broomlands, although local rivals Knockentiber now have three games in hand. The scoring started as early as the second minute when Moore headed home a Miller corner when the keeper failed to collect. The lead was doubled ten minutes later when English got the first of his hat trick as he beat the offside trap and rounded the on-rushing keeper and slid the ball into the empty net. Broomlands were playing a very dangerous offside game and this allowed Galston in behind them on a number of occasions to score. It was three nil only two minutes later when English was fouled in the box and Duffy finished off from the spot. Broomlands misery was further compounded when their defender was sent off for his professional foul leading to the penalty. Duffy got his second and Galston's fourth halfway through the first half as he also beat the offside trap and passed the ball past the keeper into the net. Broomlands got a goal back on the half-hour mark when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Parris. Into the second half and the home team restored their four goal lead in the 58th minute as Duffy completed his hat trick, again racing through on goal and finishing well. Broomlands didn't give up and got another goal back almost immediately when a long ball into the box wasn't dealt with and their striker was on hand to finish from close range. The scoring was not finished there though as English completed his hat trick with 2 goals in the last twenty minutes, finishing both well inside the box. Galston could have reached double figures in the second half alone with the chances they created, and this was an excellent result against a Broomlands team missing some key players, and their good form continues. Many thanks to match sponsors Murdoch Proper Development. Man of the Match went to Ryan Miller for an excellent midfield display, with Numpty going to Parris for his brilliant run and terrible finish!! |

| 08-Apr-09 | League | Galston United | 3 | v | 1 | Dean Thistle | J Brown | 7 / 10 | click here | ||||||||||
Galston moved second top of the League following a good second half display at home to Dean Thistle. The teams had drawn 1 - 1 earlier in the season and it was important for United to keep their recent run of form going, although the first half looked as if it was going to be one of those nights as the home team missed a few golden opportunities to take the lead. Galston had the better of possession during the first period but their finishing was poor as both Duffy and Gemmell missed excellent chances. Keeper Moore was playing well and kept the team in the match with a few excellent saves. The second half saw an improved performance from the team and they got the goals their play deserved. Galston scored three goals in a ten minute period of the second half, when the first goal finally came just before the hour mark as Gemmell ran in on goal from the right hand side and his shot slid past the Dean keeper. They doubled their lead soon after when English finished well when he ran through on goal, and the scoring was complete 2 minutes later when Duffy finished brilliantly, as he lobbed the onrushing keeper from the left hand side. At this point, Galston were well in control and the scoreline could have been more emphatic if they were more clinical in front of goal. However it was Dean who scored next when Parris was adjudged to have fouled the Dean striker just inside the box, and keeper Moore was left with no chance when the ball was slammed home from the spot. This was to prove to be a consolation goal for the visitors as Galston held on for a deserved victory. Many thanks to match sponsors Murdoch Property Development . Man of the Match went to keeper Moore for a fine first half display, with Numpty going to with Calder getting the Numpty award. |

| 04-Apr-09 | League | Troon Amateurs | 1 | v | 4 | Galston United | 6 / 10 | team sheet | |||||||||||
Galston travelled to Troon on league business hoping to build on their recent good form, the teams had met two weeks earlier with Galston winning 5 - 0 and the match was played in much the same way as United dominated for long spells. Galston started very brightly and had a couple of chances within the opening period but had to wait until the quarter hour mark to open the scoring, as Duffy finished from the penalty spot after Gemmell had been fouled in the box. Galston had the majority of play at this point but could not turn this into many clear-cut chances. It was against the run of play that Troon got their equaliser as keeper Moore failed to collect a cross and the Troon striker nodded the ball home. Galston managed to get their noses back in front before half time following another keeper error at the other end when Gemmell was on hand to knock the ball home from close range. United continued to push forward in the second half to seal the victory and got their third goal twenty minutes into the half when Wardrop's through ball eluded the home defence and Duffy finished well from twelve yards. The game was over as a contest by this point, but United saved the best until last when Miller struck from distance with an un-stoppable shot to secure another fine victory. Many thanks to match sponsors Metro Construction. Man of the Match went to English for an excellent display with Craig Moore getting numpty this week!! |
