United score five goals for the third match in a row as they advance to the third round of the Ayrshire Cup. Galston travelled to Irvine to face second division Girdle Toll United and won through to set up an away tie next week to Broomfield Rovers.

Galston were in front within the first ten minutes when Apprentice of the Year Steven Smith headed a corner back across goal, and Gemmell was on hand to force the ball over the line. The premier league team had several chances to extend their lead but had to wait until the 29th minute to do so when English finished well after some good work down the left wing.

The tie was really over by a contest by this point, as Girdle didn't look to trouble the Galston defence during any point of the match, although they had a goal disallowed for offside and keeper Moore almost let them back into the match when he fumbled a long-range free kick that looked to be going wide, but he recovered well to push the rebound shout round the post.

Galston continued this domination in the second half and could have scored far more goals but poor finishing again let them down. The third goal came ten minutes from the restart when Wardrop's header struck the bar, and Jordan was first to react inside the six yard box to poke the ball home. The pitch was now becoming very heavy and the game was becoming bogged down in the midfield, but the visitors managed another two goals before full-time.

Firstly, Moore finished off from inside the box, and then Duffy struck home when he was found free at the back post. These were only two successful conversion of a multitude of chances, with the home team not managing a single shot on goal in the second half. A well deserved victory for Galston, although the number of chances created was enough to win several games.

Man of the Match went to Parris in his new Centre Half role, with Numpty shared between Wardrop and Barra for numerous mishaps!!

Galston advance to the fourth round of the West of Scotland Cup following another fine victory at home, although the scoreline flatters them a little as this was a tighter match than the 5 - 1 suggests, with the referee doing his best to spoil what could have been an excellent match.

Galston took the lead within the first five minutes when a cross from the right found the un-marked Denim on the six-yard line and he passed the ball past the stranded keeper. Blochairn had the best of the next twenty minutes in terms of possession although they rarely troubled the home keeper, and it was Galston who looked more dangerous in attack with English and Eadie's pace causing difficulties for the visitors. The match was played at a decent pace with the visitors passing the ball about well in the midfield without creating any clear cut chances.

The home team then scored two more goals before half time when firstly Eadie intercepted a pass-back and rounded the goalie before knocking the ball home, and then the front two combined again with English finishing well from inside the box. A three-nil half time lead was better than expected for Galston, although they had created the best of the chances of the first half.

They extended their lead after only 7 minutes of the second half when Parris ran from deep inside his own half, and with the visitors playing offside, he ran through the defence and finished well for a good solo goal. Blochairn the scored a consolation goal with the midfielder finishing very well fro inside the box, although Galston restored their 4 goal lead when Miller finished from inside the box following a cross from the left.

Blochairn were reduced to nine men as their frustration with the referee got the better of them as the game died out. A great result for Galston against a very decent team and they progress to the next round.

Man of the Match and Numpty both went to Barra for his fine return from injury, and his mid-air high-pitched shout in search of Ryan Miller!!!

Galston travelled to play Beith Amateurs in a midweek friendly to welcome a couple of players back from injury and to get some much needed games under the belt as many games have been cancelled over the past few weeks. This was a comfortable victory for the Premier League team over their lower league opponents and proved to be a very worthwhile exercise.

Scott Barrowman returned from injury in the first game of the season and trialist Eadie started in attack, with Mair getting a good hour in his return to fitness. Calder played in a new right back position and had an outstanding game, and collected the Man of the Match award.

The visitors took the lead just after ten minutes when English's cross from the right was headed home well by new boy Eadie, and the two combined again after the half hour mark with English sliding the ball past the on-rushing keeper to complete a two-nil half-time lead The second half was played very much as a training game for Galston, with Parker also returning to the side. Alex Duffy replaced English and he scored two goals in the second half either side of Eadie's second of the night

Parris and Mair formed a strong central defensive partnership in the second half keeping only the second clean sheet of the season. The home team rarely troubled the Premier league team and keeper Moore was an observer for much of the match, and United used the opportunity to pass the ball around. Barrowman had an excellent return to the team, and this allowed the rest of the midfield to attack when necessary.

A good run-out for the boys, with Calder getting Man of the Match. Numpty went to Miller senior for his fine parking display before the match.

Galston travelled to Dundee for the third round of the Scottish Cup to face a Bank Street Athletic team new to the Saturday Amateur competition, having won the Sunday Scottish Cup two years ago.

The Dundee opponents have built a strong reputation over the past couple of seasons, but Galston had the best of the game yet crashed out of the cup due to a string of missed chances. Galston made a few chances during the first half hour of the match but the major point was a fantastic triple save from keeper Moore who first blocked a long shot before twice denying the Bank Street striker from close range.

Galston deservedly took the lead just after the half hour mark when Jordan finished from close range after being cleverly played through. However, the lead was short lived as the home team equalised two minutes later when a corner was not dealt with and the ball landed at the feet of the midfielder and he knocked the ball home from inside the six yard box. The rest of the first half continued in the same vain with Galston having the majority of the possession and creating some chances, but Bank Street looking strong going forward.

The best chance of the match fell to Galston on the hour mark when Duffy was clean through on goal, but pushed his shot wide of goal. Galston were made to rue their missed chances as the Bank Street winger rifled home from thirty yards five minutes later. The visitors then pushed everything forward in the last twenty minutes to try and get something from the game but to no avail, as the Dundee team defended deep and made it very difficult to break them down, and they had a couple of chances themselves to put the tie beyond doubt as United left some spaces at the back as they pushed forward.

A very disappointing result for Galston so early in the cup, As this was not the result their play deserved. Man of the Match went to Greg Miller, with Numpty going to Ryan for his calamity at the goal!

Galston continued in their recent run of good cup form with a comfortable home victory against Belleaire from Greenock in the West of Scotland Cup, and their first clean sheet of the season.

The home team started the better of the teams following a slight delay to the kick off, and had much of the possession for the entire match. However in the early part of the game they could not convert this possession into many clear cut chances. Much of the game was being played in the opposition half and they were not able to clear the ball. Galston were at times guilty of trying to be too elaborate in their build up play, and were choosing the wrong option at times when driving forward.

The inevitable first goal came just after the half hour mark when a corner from the right was headed into his own net by a Belleaire defender, and although this wasn't the obvious method of the first goal, it was more than deserved. the first half continued in this vain with Galston having much of the possession, but the Belleaire sweeper playing well and ensuring the lead was not extended.

The second half carried on as the first had finished, although by this time the pitch was becoming difficult and the visitors were tiring. United were denied a stone wall penalty within 5 minutes of the second half when the visiting sweeper cleared the ball with his hands, but the referee waved play on. Galston did get a penalty ten minutes later when Jordan was pulled t the ground when trying to latch on to a quick free kick, and Duffy dispatched.

Duffy doubled his tally with a fine finish from inside the box to make it four goals in two games and seal the victory for Galston, who had other clear chances as the game died out. A fine victory for Galston who advance to the next round of the cup. Many thanks to the Match Sponsor for this week, Bobby Denham. Man of the Match went to Parris for a fine midfield display, and Numpty going to McCallion for his spat with the gaffer!

United travelled to Airdrie to take on Victoria Park of the Strathclyde Saturday Morning league and left with a comfortable victory and progress to the third round of the Scottish Cup. Galston started well and had the advantage of the strong wind in the first half, although the conditions were terrible for both teams.

The visitors were one nil up inside the first ten minutes when Denim's corner from the right struck first the defender and then Gemmell before landing in the net, and the lead was doubled ten minutes later when the striker was first to react inside the box to a Murray thunderbolt as it ricocheted off the crossbar to double his and Galston's tally. It was 3 nil just after the half hour mark when Duffy out-jumped the Victoria Park keeper to nod home a floated free kick into the box.

Galston made a couple of changes at half time, and substitute English added a fourth goal just before the hour mark as he ran through on goal and rounded the keeper before slamming the ball home. However, the home team then got a goal back inside a minute as a corner was headed back across goal and nodded home. Galston then seemed to take their foot off the pedal for the next ten minutes as the home team grew in confidence.

However, this ended with twenty minutes remaining when English added his second after a flowing move down the left hand side and a fine cross from Duffy. Duffy himself then added his second in the last ten minutes when he beat the defender on the edge of the box and rifled his shot into the bottom corner of the net to cap a very fine performance.

This was a comfortable victory for the Ayrshire team in very difficult conditions, with all three strikers getting two goals each. A good start to the Scottish Cup campaign. Man of the Match went to Duffy for his two goals and an all-round excellent display with Smith getting his second Numpty of the season for his dying swan of a dive?
