| find us | United put in their worst performance so far in pre-season as they traveled to Cambusbarron to defend the trophy they won last year, losing out to the hosts in the final. United played uphill in the first half, and this allowed Rovers to break quickly and put the visiting defence under some pressure, although united started brightly enough without taking many chances. The first of the Cambusbarron goals came when Miller took one touch too many in the box and the little striker robbed him of possession before swiveling and firing a low shot into the corner from 8 yards. Although the strike wasn't the best, it was too low for keeper Moore to get to. Worse was to follow soon afterwards when Cambusbarron doubled their lead in similar circumstances, this time Smith losing out in the box and Moore couldn't deal with the soft shot from the striker. The third goal arrived before half-time in a well worked move by the home team, with some good work down the right hand side finished off by a decent cross right across the face of goal, which was knocked in at the back post by the left midfielder. This was the only goal that Cambusbarron had worked hard to score, although they were worthy of their three goal advantage at half-time, as they looked the hungrier of the two sides. United battled back in the second half with Duffy scoring from the spot when the referee awarded a penalty, the softest of three claims that United had in a 5 minute spell. English added a bit of hunger in the second half but it was too little, too late for Galston, and the cup was lost. Many thanks to Cambusbarron for another great game, and hopefully the boys will be back next season to regain the trophy! |

United traveled to Livingston for the annual pre-season game and secured a strong victory. The game started relatively even, but United began to dominate within the first fifteen minutes, and took the lead just after the twenty minute mark when Robertson nodded home at the back post from a great free kick. Robertson doubled his and United's tally minutes later when good work by English down the right found the striker un-marked in the box and he finished well. English then got on the score-sheet himself, when a great cross by Denim found the striker alone in the six yard box, he controlled the ball well and slotted past the keeper. United added another two before half time as Paris finished from a couple of yards out following a good move, and Robertson completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot after being brought down in the box. United took their foot off the pedal at the start of the second half and this allowed Uphall into the game, firstly with a free kick, and then a poor pass allowed the striker a free shot at goal. United got back on track soon afterwards when another fine move was finished at the back post. Robertson added another soon after and the scoring was complete when Jordan finished from the penalty spot after United were denied a clear goal scoring opportunity. This was an excellent victory for United against a strong Uphall team, with Robertson getting the man of the match award for a fine goal scoring and all-round display. |

| 12-Jul-08 | Pre-Season Friendly | Galston United | 3 | v | 1 | Winlinton Wolves | Jamie Cotton | 8 / 10 | |||||||||||
United got their first pre-season victory of the season against 1st division Winlinton Wolves. The first goal came early in the game when a corner from the left was headed home by Gemmell, although he didn't seem to know much about it! United added another two goals before half time when first Smith headed home from a corner, and then Paris finished well following a good move and a great attacking run. United were playing well and the football was flowing much more than the previous week against Stewarton. The second half began with the visitors getting a goal back when a corner was headed home. The rest of the match was played out in the midfield with United happy to hold on to their two goal lead. Winlinton never really threatened the home team after that and United did have a few chances without adding to their lead. A fine victory for United, and a better display, with Kenny Paris getting the Man of the Match award for a strong midfield display. This weeks match ball was sponsored by Murdoch Development. |

| 05-Jul-08 | Pre-season Friendly | Galston United | 1 | v | 2 | Stewarton United | Hugh Howie | 8 / 10 | |||||||||||
The first pre-season friendly of the season saw United battle against a Stewarton United team risen from the ashes. In a good run out for the boys, but the result went against them as the visitors won 2-1. The match started at a decent pace with Stewarton happy to sit in and defend, playing only one man up front and packing the midfield. Galston had the majority of the possession in the first half but were unable to pick their way through the Stewarton defence to create any clear cut chances. Stewarton did hit a couple of times on the break, but the Galston keeper had no real saves to make in the first half, which finished goal-less. Both teams made some changes for the second period to increase the fitness of as many players as possible, although the pattern of the first half continues as neither team changed their formation. The visitors took the lead half-way through the second half when a quick free-kick was played through to the striker who finished well. United finally got a goal back with only a few minutes to spare when good work from Wardrop attacking from defence found Calder inside the box who shot high over the advancing keeper. This stalemate was short lived as Stewarton managed to sneak a winner at the death when a cross into the box found the advancing midfielder, who glanced his header over the United keeper and into the net. A good run-out for the boys, but not the result they were looking for. This week's match-ball sponsor was Burnawn Services, with Man of the Match going to Gemmell. |
