Following last week's defeat in the Scottish Cup, Galston bounced back with a victory against Strathclyde University in the West of Scotland Cup, winning with the odd goal in five in a thrilling encounter. Galston travelled to Stepps knowing they would face stiff opposition as Strathclyde University flying high in the Caledonian Premier League.

United started the brightest of the teams, and were working extremely hard to close down their opponents and not allowing them time to settle, particularly in midfield as Parris and McPherson were imposing themselves well on the match. This forced the home side into playing the long ball which did not suit their normal game and they looked out of sorts.

It was no surprise when Galston took the lead as they had already troubled the keeper with a few shots and although Parris's shot wasn't the strongest, the Strathclyde Uni keeper was slow to react and the ball squirmed under his body and into the net.

The home team then enjoyed a spell of play when they passed the ball well although Galston managed to stifle them to their own half for most of this time. The only half chances the Uni team created were snapshots from outside the box, and none of these troubled Murdoch in the Galston goal.

United in fact doubled their lead during this period following good work from Jordan down the right wing, and his cross was cleared by the Strathclyde sweeper, only for the ball to ricochet off the centre half and into the net. The rest of the half was played in much the same way with Strathclyde trying to pass the ball around and play their way through United, but the visitors battled and defended well and looked the most dangerous going forward.

Galston extended their lead within seven minutes of the restart with the best move of the match. English made a great run down the left hand side and was found by a fine pass, and he followed with an inch perfect cross to his strike partner McLean, who controlled the ball superbly in the box and finished expertly.

The game was far from over however as Strathclyde University bombarded Galston to stay in the cup. They managed get a goal back with twenty minutes to go as a flick on into the box was passed into the net. This led to a nervous end to the game as the home team searched for another goal. This finally came as United failed to clear and the ball was scrambled over the line, however this was the final play of the match as the referee ended the game before the home team could push for an equaliser.

United played well in the first half and defended excellently in the second under some heavy pressure, and just deserved to go through in a well fought match, and have been rewarded with a place in the fifth round as their opponents for the fourth round have resigned from the competition, and will face Arkleston Ams in the fifth round.

Man of the Match went to Jordan as he enjoyed a great deal of joy on the right wing, and battled well during the second half in a more defensive role. Numpty this week went to Chris Anderson for his lipstick application at the Valentine's Dance?!
